YEAH BUT NO BOT...
World created for CHATGPT ‘agents’
CHATBOTS will soon be so like humans that they will gossip and bicker – like TV’S Vicky Pollard.
They could go on to work as personal assistants for bosses and will seem to have a life of their own.
Researchers used CHATGPT to create 25 characters who “live” in a fictional world called Smallville.
They supplied the Al with little information on each character, or “agent”, other than their name, relationships, goals and job.
Left to their own devices, Smallville’s residents behaved in unexpected ways. They slept, cooked meals, went to work, made friends, held grudges and gossiped. Each was given a kind of long-term memory by researchers at Google and Stanford University in the US. One, called Isabella, even organised a Valentine’s party, chose a venue, decorated it and invited guests, with some failing to turn up. Joon Sung Park, of Stanford, said: “We’re on a trajectory to creating agents that are so believable that people will interact with them in a manner similar to how we interact with each other.” But he added: “There’s a façade of realism but obviously it’s not real.”
