MARK ROBINS is delighted to be in the play-off mix after Coventry moved into the top six with a vital victory against Reading who remain in the bottom three.

Gustavo Hamer scored a 54th-minute winner with a cool finish into the corner after his clever pass set up Matty Godden to volley the opener on 36 minutes.

And despite Lucas Joao’s fine 20-yard equaliser five minutes after the break, Coventry responded to extend a fine run that has seen them lose just one of their last 15 matches.

Manager Robins said: “It’s just great to be in the mix at this stage of the season, let’s see where we can get to.

“At this stage of the season you have to win, it was a must-win, there are teams who have the advantage over us but we’re in with a shout.

“We kept playing and creating chances, we tired a little bit but I’m just pleased we won a really difficult game.

“We’ve got to make sure we keep winning, we’ve got two tough games, it’s a tough ask but we’ll have a .............. 2

go.” Reading remain winless under caretaker boss Noel Hunt and have failed to win any of their last 11 matches, with the club just one point from safety.

Hunt said: “The result is the important thing, the boys are disappointed with the result, we’ve just got to keep focused.

“We’ve still got a lot to fight for and play for, we’ve got two big games.

“In the last 15 minutes we put the pressure on and had a couple of really good opportunities.

“I felt the referee was not great from our point of view in terms of the way fouls were given.” COVENTRY: Wilson 6; Mcnally 8, Doyle 8, Panzo 7 (Mcfadzean (79) 5); Dabo 6 (Norton-cuffy (58) 6), Hamer 9, Kelly 7, Wilson-esbrand 6 (Bidwell (80) 5); Eccles 6; Gyokeres 7, Godden 7 (Walker (80) 5) READING: Lumley 6; Yiadom 5, Holmes 5, Sarr 5, Guinness-walker 6; Azeez 5 (Long (74) 5), Hendrick 6, Casadei 5, Camara 5 (Fornah (46) 6); Joao 7, Ehibhatiomhan 5 (Mcintyre (63) 5) STAR MAN: Gustavo Hamer – Scored the winner and provided an assist in a masterful midfield display.
