HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD

Mullin and Lee script ideal ending

- By James Nursey AT THE RACECOURSE GROUND

PAUL MULLIN produced a box office brace as Wrexham’s Hollywood owners lifted the title to return to the Football League despite a dire start.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and co-owner Rob Mcelhenney were hugging and singing in the stands before kick-off with the hosts on the verge of the title.

But play-off chasing Boreham Wood nearly spoiled the party by taking the lead in the first minute at the Racecourse.

The Welsh outfit needed a win to return to the EFL for the first time in 15 years.

Fellow actor Paul Rudd, star of Ant Man, flew in for the occasion and enjoyed a pre-match beer with locals.

The champagne only flowed after Wrexham eventually won to see off second-placed Notts

County, who also beat the previous record points total in the division.

Wrexham deservedly came from behind in memorable fashion with goals from Elliott Lee and Mullin.

But Phil Parkinson’s side’s bid for glory got off to a disastrous start after just 43 seconds.

Jack Payne played a hopeful ball over the top which centreback Eoghan O’connell missed and Lee Ndlovu coolly lobbed in.

But the hosts were level in the 15th minute when Ryan Barnett did superbly down the right to cross to the back post for the unmarked Elliott Lee to head in.

Home dangerman Mullin then put an overhead kick wide and fired in a low shot.

But Boreham remained a threat as Femi Ilesanmi flashed a header wide.

Wrexham held firm after the restart and took the lead from a sensational goal by Mullin.

He cut in from the left touchline, drove past David Agbontohoma into the box before curling a superb right-foot shot into the far top corner.

He then added his 38th league goal and his 47th in total with a left-foot shot after another powerful surge in front of 10,162 fans.
