KANE’S WAY TO GO, TEN

- Interview: David Maddock

I CAN hardly predict anything other than a Manchester City win in the FA Cup Final, can I, when I was saying three months ago they’d do the Treble?

I said, at the time, I was surprised so few people were making a big deal of it – now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to praise Pep and the team he’s put together.

So you know which column to come to for the best insight!

Manchester United can be pretty excited with qualifying for the Champions League and reaching a second major final in Erik ten Hag’s (above) first Premier League season.

He’s got the foundations sorted and now he can start putting the rest of the structure together.

Looking at them this season, they’ve only scored 56 goals in the Premier League and have a goal difference of 14.

Compare that to City with plus-62, or even Liverpool’s, which is twice that of United, despite finishing behind them. So that’s the next stage of their development and it’s up to the owners.

They have a big decision to make, with the club apparently up for sale.

Do they give him the backing and the strikers to take United to a different level – or do they stick with what they’ve got to keep the profits from any sale higher?

You look at those 56 goals and Erling Haaland wasn’t far off that on his own. So the answer is clearly to find a striker who guarantees goals.

All I will say is that Harry Kane owes Spurs nothing after all the loyalty he’s given them – and now he has a big decision to make.

So if Ten Hag is going to build properly on those foundations, then his bosses should make Harry an offer which makes any decision a lot simpler.
