GET KANE FOR SHOT AT GLORY

- PRIORITY SIGNING EXCLUSIVE BY NEIL GOULDING

MANCHESTER United legend Brian Mcclair believes the club must do everything in their power to sign Harry Kane.

England skipper Kane is in high demand and speculation about his future has intensified after Tottenham missed out on European football next season after a dismal campaign.

And four-time Premier League winner Mcclair, who won 14 pieces of silverware in a distinguished Old Trafford career, has stressed the need for the Red Devils to strike while the iron is hot and Kane wants away.

“We should have been interested in Robert Lewandowski before he moved from Bayern Munich to Barcelona.

“But then he has no pedigree in the Premier League,” said Mcclair (below).

“But there’s only one player, for me, who has the record of scoring goals in the Premier League — and that’s Harry Kane.

“Forget about where he plays, Harry Kane has got a record comparable to great goalscorers throughout the history of football, particularly the Premier League.

“You have to say he’s the one to sign, you know he’ll score goals. He regularly scored 20-plus goals a season, so what I would do is go and try and get him.

“And his contract is nearly finished, so it’s a good time.”

Kane has one year left on his Spurs’ deal but is reportedly only interested in signing for United.

“I know he’s been at Tottenham for such a long period of time, but he’ll want to win things,” stressed Mcclair.

“And that’s why he probably fancied going to Man City a year ago.

“City win things and I’m sure Harry Kane wants that. I reckon all footballers want to play in successful teams.

“You know, ask players like Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand, who have all got highprofile jobs in the media, is winning titles and trophies important. And they’ll tell you it is.

“It’s a wonderful mark if you’re a Spurs fan, you play for Spurs all your life and that’s all you want to do.

“I admire that, but I still think as a professional footballer you want to win something.

“He could score 150 more goals for Tottenham and not win anything, but he could leave and win trophies.”
