MINGS DESERVES ‘REWARD’

- EXCLUSIVE BY HARRY PRATT

TYRONE MINGS’ England recall is richly deserved following a sensational seven months for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

And he will not be the only Villan banging on the Three Lions’ door between now and the start of Euro 2024 – with forward Ollie Watkins and midfielder Jacob Ramsey next in line.

That’s the message from ex-england and Villa winger Tony Daley, who has witnessed first-hand the club’s resurgence since Emery took over last October.

The Villa ambassador is adamant nobody warrants a return to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the forthcoming Euro qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia more than Mings (above).

The central defender, 30, had to overcome the shock of being dropped last August – and stripped of the club captaincy – by previous boss Steven Gerrard. Then, having regained his place, he just got better and better under Emery. Daley, capped seven times by England, said: “The way he handled losing the captaincy was outstanding. “To go from that to where he is now is pretty special. As soon as Emery comes in, Tyrone has grown and grown into this fantastic player again. “His tacking, interceptions, passing with the left foot – it’s all so good. He’s so comfortable with the ball. And he also knows when to defend and put it in row Z. He really deserves his England place. “It’s a genuine reward.” And Daley, professional fitness coach and consultant at 7D Fitforlife, is tipping two more at Villa to follow Mings into the Three Lions squad. He added: “If Callum Wilson or any of the forwards get injured, I’m certain Ollie will be Gareth’s next option. “Ramsey’s ability to drive with the ball creates havoc. If that continues, he’s someone who can’t be overlooked.”
