Thousands march at Dublin rally in protest & solidarity
THOUSANDS of demonstrators marched through Dublin yesterday to protest against the Israeli military operation in Gaza.
The marchers carrying banners and Palestinian flags made their way through the city centre to the Israeli Embassy in Ballsbridge.
A second demonstration, organised in solidarity with Israel, took place in Dublin city centre later in the evening.
People Before Profit–solidarity TD Richard Boyd Barrett called for the Israeli ambassador to be expelled from Ireland and also hit out at the Irish Government for its failure to condemn what he described as the “ethnic cleansing” of the people of Gaza.
He also told the Irish Sunday Mirror how it is “truly shocking” that EU leaders are pledging unconditional support to a country “carrying out war crimes”.
He said: “The Israelis are involved in the ethnic cleansing of over a million Gazans from northern Gaza.
SANCTIONS
“These are war crimes by any definition and I think the Irish Government has to impose sanctions on Israel for these savage violations of international law.
“In my view I think they should be expelling the Israeli ambassador.
“It’s terrifying what’s in store for the Palestinian people unless the international community takes action against Israel.”
Mr Boyd Barrett told how believes most people across Europe are horrified by what is happening.
He added: “It is truly shocking that European leaders have pledged unconditional support to Israel when Israel is openly saying they are going to target the entire Gaza population and I don’t believe they have any mandate to do it.
“I think vast numbers of people across Europe are horrified by what Israel is doing so I don’t believe that European leaders are representing the views of the majority of people in Europe.”
