VINCENT KOMPANY appeared to commit his future to Burnley by claiming work on their Premier League return will begin as soon as today.

The Belgian said after the Clarets were officially relegated following a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham: “The overriding feeling right now is you’ve lost a football match, but number two is the consequences of where we will play next season.

“But I can guarantee you one thing, tomorrow is day one of us being successful again, day one of next season and I always look to the future with excitement.”

The Burnley boss couldn’t help but take aim at the officials for “costing” the Clarets over the course of the campaign.

Kompany added: “I’ve said it before, I don’t think the level of the officials was good enough this year. I know they’ve tried their best to be transparent but yeah, it’s cost us.”

He later added on the gap between the Premier League and Championship: “We’ll keep trying to bridge it. In my mind Burnley will be in the Premier League again.

“When it’ll be we never know, you can’t take anything for granted because the Championship is tough.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou claimed Spurs will be going for all three points against Manchester City on Tuesday – even if it helps Arsenal win the Premier League title.

The Aussie said, after his side avoided a fifth straight top-flight defeat: “I think we’ve got what it takes to make a game of it, play our football and see where it takes us.

“They’re an outstanding team, them and Arsenal are the benchmark of the competition right now, they’re 20-odd points ahead of us so we’ve got some ground to make up. It’s 90 minutes of football at our place and we’re going to give it a crack.”

Postecoglou also paid tribute to match-winner Micky van de Ven after the Dutchman was also named Tottenham’s Player of the Year.

He said of his defender: “He’s not bad is he? That’s the exciting bit for me, it’s Micky’s first year in the Premier League, (Guglielmo) Vicario’s, Destiny’s (Udogie), Pape’s (Matar Sarr) first full season, there’s so much growth in us.”
