Golf clas­sic and St Mary’s ‘Camino Walk’ part of roof restora­tion bid

THE St. Mary’s Par­ish Church Roof Re­fur­bish­ment fundrais­ing cam­paign is well un­der way with the next ac­tiv­ity on the agenda - a Golf Clas­sic - tak­ing place on Fri­day 27th April at the clas­sic links course of Lay­town & Bet­tys­town Golf Club.

The first tee-off time is 9am, with the last tee­off at 4pm, but there are only a few spaces left on the timesheet. Teams of four in­clud­ing green fees and din­ner are €300. If you wish to spon­sor a Tee-Box, there are some still avail­able, great value for ad­ver­tis­ing your busi­ness at €100. There are a num­ber of ex­cel­lent prizes up for grabs on the day, and a sprin­kling of sur­prises too! The event prom­ises to be a re­ally great day out, with Fr Phil in­sist­ing he will win the near­est-the-pin com­pe­ti­tion.

Look out for up­com­ing sum­mer events in aid of the fund in­clud­ing a “Camino de St.Marys” , an even­ing walk on the his­tory of the lo­cal ec­cle­si­as­ti­cal sites of St.Mary’s Par­ish in the com­pany of the bril­liant lo­cal his­to­rian, Mr. Bren­dan Matthews from the Mill­mount Cen­tre.

Bren­dan plans to start the Camino walk n’talk tour of St. Mary`s Par­ish start­ing at the Church in James’ Street and then head­ing down to Scotch Hall, Marsh Road and into the Dale, with ac­cess un­der the old Dublin Road. They then stop off at the his­tor­i­cally sig­nif­i­cant St. Mary`s Church at the top of Mary St., where there is still a rem­nant of the old Me­dieval Catholic Church. The tour could fin­ish at the Old Hill/Pitcher Hill area across from Mill­mount. It’s an­tic­i­pated the “Camino de St.Marys” would take about 80 min­utes or so, de­pend­ing on the weather and num­bers who may come along.
