Vir­gin Me­dia main spon­sor for Mar­itime

THE Ir­ish Mar­itime Festival 2018 sails into Drogheda Port this sum­mer. Event hosts Louth County Coun­cil this week an­nounced that Vir­gin Me­dia are on board once again as main spon­sor.

Speak­ing on be­half of Louth County Coun­cil Festival Di­rec­tor Co­lette Moss said “We are thrilled that Vir­gin Me­dia have cho­sen to re­new their sponsorship of the Ir­ish Mar­itime Festival. They pro­vide won­der­ful sup­port to the festival, es­pe­cially in mar­ket­ing the event to peo­ple far and wide. Their sup­port of this event is in­valu­able.”

Tak­ing place in Drogheda Port on Satur­day 16th and Sun­day 17th June, the Ir­ish Mar­itime Festival in as­so­ci­a­tion with Vir­gin Me­dia com­bines mar­itime his­tory and her­itage with bril­liant mu­sic, de­li­cious food and lots of fam­ily friendly fun.

Speak­ing at the an­nounce­ment Ai­dan Darcy, Head of Busi­ness Di­vi­sion at Vir­gin Me­dia said “Vir­gin Me­dia helps cre­ate a dig­i­tal world that makes good things hap­pen, for our cus­tomers and the com­mu­ni­ties in which we op­er­ate. Hav­ing ex­tended our pres­ence in Drogheda and cre­ated new re­la­tion­ships with busi­nesses and res­i­dents, we’re de­lighted to sup­port this year’s Ir­ish Mar­itime Festival. We know the event at­tracts huge crowds, over 40,000 recorded in 2017, but more im­por­tantly it’s a great day to re­lax with fam­ily and friends. We’re de­lighted to power and pro­vide free pub­lic WiFi at the Festival to give every­one the chance to snap and share their Mar­itime mo­ments.”

The Ir­ish Mar­itime Festival is hosted by Louth County Coun­cil in con­junc­tion with Drogheda Port. It’s been de­scribed as “The Daddy of Mar­itime Fes­ti­vals” be­cause of the size of the event and the range of ac­tiv­i­ties for vis­i­tors.

There’ll be fab­u­lous Tall Ships to visit. Watch out for the work­ing Mar­itime ves­sels in­clud­ing tug­boats, lifeboats and so much more. Check out the yachts rac­ing into Drogheda Port

A Taste of Ire­land’s An­cient East, the food zone at the Mar­itime Festival will be big­ger than ever be­fore. Hosted by the Boyne Val­ley Food Net­work, this zone will fea­ture the finest of lo­cal pro­duc­ers of­fer­ing tast­ings and chefs pro­vid­ing in­spir­ing cook­ery demon­stra­tions.

Mu­sic will play a key role in the festival with live acts per­form­ing on the Bal­last Quay stage all week­end. With Drogheda act­ing as host town to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉire­ann 2018, there will also be plenty of tra­di­tional Ir­ish mu­sic on of­fer. And the su­perb Stow­away Ses­sions are back on the deck on a ma­jes­tic Tall Ship.

Mayor of Drogheda Cllr. Pio Smith con­cluded “The Ir­ish Mar­itime Festival in as­so­ci­a­tion with Vir­gin Me­dia re­ally is a show­case for Drogheda and our im­mense mar­itime his­tory.
