Lour­des Youth Choir launch their fan­tas­tic new CD

THE Lour­des Youth choir will launch their new CD “Manus Salvus” (Safe Hands) on Tues­day 24 th of April 7.30pm in the Lour­des church.

Last Fe­bru­ary one of their mem­bers was di­ag­nosed with MS and as a way to sup­port her, this CD was a ven­ture the girls took on. It is a five track CD all pieces cho­sen by the mem­ber and her fam­ily. The money raised through the sale of this CD will go to­wards treat­ment re­quired dur­ing re­lapses and a do­na­tion in De­cem­ber 2018 to MS Louth.

Grease in the Bar­bican

RE­HEARSALS are well un­der­way for the mu­si­cal ver­sion of Grease. The Tran­si­tion Year stu­dents from St Joseph’s and Our Lady’s Green­hills are per­form­ing this amaz­ing show at the Bar­bican Cen­tre on Wed­nes­day 9th May and Fri­day 11th May. Ad­mis­sion tick­ets are avail­able from the school of­fice at a cost of €10 per per­son or a fam­ily ticket for €35 (2 adults and 2 chil­dren).

The mu­si­cal is set in 1959 at fic­tional Ry­dell High School, Chicago. It fol­lows ten work­ing-class teenagers as they nav­i­gate the com­plex­i­ties of peer pres­sure, politics, per­sonal core val­ues, and love.

This is a ma­jor pro­duc­tion for the staff and stu­dents of St. Joseph’s and the TY girls from Green­hills Col­lege.

Lough Derg re­treat

Blues leg­ends game

IT should be quite a day on Satur­day April 28 when the New­town Blues leg­ends take to the field as a fundraiser for the Feile U14 boys and Girls.. It prom­ises to be an even­ing of fun and a bit of craic. For more in­for­ma­tion con­tact Ai­dan Crowe 086 231 3685 or Brien Phillips 087 2100011, es­pe­cially if you want to dust off the boots.

Boys and girls aged 35 plus are warmly in­vited. The Blues Leg­ends will face a ‘Blow Ins’ se­lec­tion.

Boomerang jam­ming

JOIN the tal­ented Youth work­ers at Boomerang on Fri­days from 4 – 6pm for some great Jam­ming Ses­sions & Mu­si­cal Ap­pre­ci­a­tion. They have a fan­tas­tic prac­tice space where you can meet other mu­si­cians and share your learn­ing re­sources and meth­ods with the aim to­wards do­ing per­for­mances. Land of Leg­ends 8k

The Gary Kelly Can­cer Sup­port Cen­tre Land of Leg­ends 8K takes place in the pic­turesque vil­lage of Clogher­head on Septem­ber 2. The course in­cor­po­rates the beach, head­land, farm­lands, har­bour and pier.

You can run, jog, walk or crawl the 8km route to be­come a Leg­end! While on route you will en­counter nat­u­ral and man-made ob­sta­cles.

The 27th In­fantry Bat­tal­ion will put you through your paces on the beach (no mercy shown here) fol­lowed by the Farmer’s Pyra­mids – dizzy heights. Yes, there is a swamp, wa­ter and muck in abun­dance. AND - the Piece de Re­sis­tance – the Har­bour chal­lenge.

It all starts at 11am and there’s Chip Tim­ing on the day. The first 300 reg­is­tered will be guar­an­teed a top qual­ity tech­ni­cal t-shirt.

Prizes: ~ Team Prize €1500 Prize pack­age spon­sored by Celtic Ad­ven­tures. ~ First, Sec­ond and Third prizes for Male and Fe­male: €75 (1st prize), €50 (2nd prize), €25 (3rd prize). ~ Prize for 1st Male & Fe­male over 40, 50 and 60 plus ~ Best Fancy Dress prize on the day ~ Best orig­i­nal t-shirt prize on the day.

Alzheimer’s clas­sic

THE an­nual golf clas­sic in aid of the Drogheda Branch of the Alzheimer So­ci­ety will take place at the Lay­town and Bet­tys­town golf club on Fri­day, May 18.

The cost of en­try per four-mem­ber team is €160. Tee times be­fore 11am in­clude a free break­fast.

Some great prizes are be­ing lined up at present and will be fi­nalised shortly. Reg­is­tra­tions are now open with Veron­ica Reilly at 086-6025043.

Gar­den­ing club

The Drogheda Gar­den­ing Club will be run­ning their an­nual five day trip to West Cork & Kerry on 27th of May, and re­turn­ing on Fri­day the 1st of June. Stay­ing at the Tal­bot Ho­tel in Mac­room, price in­cludes 4 nights’ bed and break­fast and even­ing meal each night.
