Death of ex United chairman Joe Fay
THE death took place on Sunday night of Joe Fay, former League of Ireland player, chairman of Drogheda United and a trailblazer when it came to the travel industry.
The soft spoken man from the Bull Ring officially opened Fay Travel at 40 West Street on February 1 1968, with two directors, Charles Walsh and Donal Kinsella.
They provided the full service, air reservations, sea reservations,, continental and cruise holidays and Joe managed the concern with the help of two clerks, Linda Quigley of Mell and Tommy Faulkner of Yellowbatter.
Joe would later spend time in the US and also lived in Yellowbatter before returning home to Drogheda in recent years.
He became involved with Drogheda United and became chairman of the club in 2003, with the aim to accelerate the club’s plans to relocate to a new stadium in the town.
Joe was also a noted athlete, winning a number of titles.
