Louth lost Leinster Final 100 years ago this month!

WHAT year did Louth win an All-Ireland SFC semi-final but still fail to qualify for the final of the same competition ?

Answer: 100 years ago this month.

Louth had been nominated to represent the Leinster Province in a semi-final against Cavan at Belturbet and Louth mastered the Breffni County — but still didn’t make it to the All-Ireland final for the simple reason that in the delayed Leinster final (it wasn’t played until January of 1919), they lost out to holders, Wexford.

The Slaneymen went on to record a fourth on the trot success at this level when licking Tipperary in the national final.

Wexford, apparently, had been prevented from fulfilling their Leinster engagements in 1918 due to a variety of reasons, including the ravages of a disastrous ‘flu epidemic.

More bad luck for Louth then!
