KJ AND AILEEN ARE BACK WITH A NEW NAME
THE REMEDY CLUB return to their home county for a special and intimate acoustic gig in the Wexford Arts Centre on Friday with a new batch of songs from their latest recording. Building on the promise of their second release, ‘Forgotten Books’, their new songs are a delicious stew of folk and country with a hint of the blues.
The band which comprises actress and singer Aileen Mythen and her husband musician Kj McEvoy, who were previously known as B and the Honeyboy.
Aileen is known for her powerful and soulful voice, which provides a perfect accompaniment to Kj’s gritty and spine tingling guitar sounds. They have been described as a harmony heavy alternative country folk duo and released and toured their first two albums under the previous name ‘B & The Honeyboy’ throughout Germany, England and France.
Having decided to change their name to The Remedy Club, the duo are soon to release their new album tentatively titled ‘Lovers, Legends and Lost Causes.’
The new offering weaves together threads of country, folk, soul and blues, paying homage to legends such as Tom Waits, Hank Williams and gypsy-Jazz musician Django Reinhardt and their combination of delicious harmonies, virtuoso guitar and honest, mature and imaginative songwriting create a contemporary Americana sound that is fresh and authentic.
The show starts at 8.30pm and tickets are €12 and can be purchased online at wexfordartscentre.ie or call 053 9123764. MEMBERS of Wexford Light Opera Society are in jubilant mood after winning the overall award in Carrick-on-Suir Music Theatre Festival for the third year in a row.
The society took home the Dick Meany Trophy for Best Overall Show with their presentation of Hits from the Musicals, which wowed Wexford audiences during the Opera Festival.
Wexford also won Best Chorus for ‘God Help the Outcasts’ from the Hunchback of Notra Dame, Best Male Performer for Tony Carty and Best Item for Ciara Cullinane.
For its next production, the society has chosen the high-energy ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ . It will be staged in the National Opera House from next April 24 to 29.
The information night was held in the Friary Hall with officers on hand to talk about the show. The society is welcoming Vivian Coates to Wexford as show director with the familiar team of Fintan Cleary (AIMS Best Musical Director 2016 for ‘Evita’), choreographer Nicole McDonald and chorus mistress Eithne Corrigan.
