Unraced Stake off to interesting start GREYHOUNDS

-

THERE WAS a very good crowd in attendance at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track on Monday night for the first round of the Red Mills Easter Unraced Stake, with some very interesting runners on display, both winners and losers.

This week’s second round will be very much worth going to see as there are some very nice youngsters ready to make their mark for outright honours.

The third round will feature on Easter Sunday and, ladies, do not forget to wear your Easter bonnet for free entry on what promises to be another very good night’s racing.

March 19 results - race one, The Red Mills Easter Unraced Sweepstake round one, heat one: 1, Telex Diamond (owner, Leanne Butler, Rathaspeck; trainer, Anton Butler), 28.80; 2, Dommos Choice, 29.71.

Telex was most impressive here, overcoming the tricky trap six draw and showing super early pace to lead and run right away from her field to score by a wide margin in a best of the night time.

Race two, heat two: 1, Suzies Mick (owners, Susan Nolan and Daniel Frayne, Forth Mountain), 29.26; 2, Craan Oscar, 29.68.

Suzies went off a hot favourite and, apart from a coming together early on with the trap two runner, he was always in control and ran out an easy winner.

It was noticeable that the hare was very close to Suzies going around the first two bends, and this might have affected the time here in the end.

A couple of other runners should improve for the run also, namely the runner-up and trap two runner Bisto Captain.

Race three, heat three: 1, Ballinaboola Mia (owner, Niamh Murphy, Co. Wexford), 29.06; 2, Milford Train, 29.55.

Ballinaboola was another easy winner as she ran out a clear seven lengths ahead of Milford Train.

Race four, heat four: 1, Ninja Burgess (owner, Terry Coveney, Essex; trainer, Margaret Fortune), 29.29; 2, Fawn Tango, 29.46.

Ninja was one to come from behind in this heat as Roaming Hero led the field down the back, but the principals took a bit of a bumping before setting off in chase down the back.

Both finished well, with Ninja proving the stronger, and there should be more to follow in the coming weeks.

Race five, heat five: 1, Jeevy, 29.46; 2, Milltown Ridge, 29.53.

This heat is remembered for the dog that only finished third, with no disrespect to the victor who ran well, leading all the way to win.

However, trap two runner It’s Scientific fell out of the trap and must have been ten lengths behind going to the bend, but was only beaten by two and a half lengths in the end.

Subsequently he was sold, and it will be very interesting to see how he runs this week.

Race six, heat six: 1, Cill Dubh Pearl (owner, Michael Bergin, Co. Kilkenny), 29.49; 2, Im The Daddy, 29.80.

Cill Dubh had a rough enough passage before putting this heat to bed well in the end, and more can be expected in the coming races also.

Race seven, heat seven: 1, Genuine Blake (owner, Tina Finn, Portlaw, Co. Waterford), 29.34; 2, Ascot Bear, 29.37.

Blake did well in the end to score when finishing strongest to get up and beat Ascot, and this young dog should improve for this outing.

Race eight, heat eight: 1, Blackhill Rock (owner, Christine Evoy, Waterford), 29.02; 2, Mikeys Daddy, 29.30.

This dog caught my eye also and he looks a nice prospect. He was led by Mikeys before running out an impressive winner, and is one to watch.

Race nine, heat nine: 1, Coolside Walker (owner, Seamus O’Neill, Co. Kilkenny; trainer, Peter Cronin), 29.17; 2, Karlow Eddie, 29.41.

Coolside led and was never in danger, a professional run and a player also.

March 22 results - race one, The Welcome to Enniscorthy Track Stakes: 1, Chanceme One (owners, John Dunne and Julie Wynne, Enniscorthy), 29.52; 2, Crowsgrove Jet, 30.04.

Race two, The Show Grounds 525 Stakes: 1, Tomahurra Rock (owner, Eimear Kehoe, Enniscorthy; trainer, Donal Kehoe), 29.70; 2, Kits Dilemma, 29.77.

Race three, The Track Bar Sprint Stakes: 1, Jojo On Air (owner, George Roche, Barntown), 19.09; 2, Lord Lady, 19.16.

Race four, The Trackside Diner 525 Stakes: 1, Hit Thediff Lad (owners, Shem O’Donnell and Joseph J. Ryan, Enniscorthy), 29.41; 2, Miniinthebox, 29.65.

Race five, The Market Square 575 Stakes: 1, Itsfiftyfifty, 31.72; 2, Tree Tops Beauty, 31.89.

Race six, The Ross Road 525 Stakes: 1, Falcon Blitz (owners, Murt’s Minions syndicate; trainer, John Kavanagh, Enniscorthy), 29.80; 2, Pipers Moment, 30.01.

Race seven, The Gorey Town 525 Stakes: 1, Longslip Billy (owner, Laurence Bolton-Lee, Gorey), 29.18; 2, Piercestown Inch, 29.56.

Race eight, The Model County 575 Stakes: 1, Kiltrea Brian (owner, John Doyle, Kiltrea), 31.42; 2, Toker Olivia, 31.70.

Race nine, The Loch Garman Getting Out Stakes: 1, Slaneyside Seán (owner, Derek Kehoe, Co. Tipperary), 29.00; 2, Bubba Maggie, 29.10.
