It’s a sweet day as Loretta celebrates 102nd birthday

-

BORN in 1916, Loretta Dooley – who has just enjoyed her 102nd birthday party with family – attributes eating sweet treats to her great age.

Loretta Dooley (née Phelan), grew up in Tullagher and moved to Rosbercon where she married John Dooley on September 15, 1942.

She lived in Rosbercon for 68 years right up until she was 99, before moving to a Mill House home; prior to moving in to New Ross Community Hospital where her daughter Maria is a resident.

She had four children Joan, Anthony, Shem and Maria and is a proud grandmother to 12 and has 25 great-grandchildren.

Joined by family members, including two of her children and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Loretta enjoyed an afternoon of music and a sing song, and loved catching up with everyone.

There was plenty of sweet treats, including cake, for Loretta and everyone to enjoy.

Her son Shem said his mother attributes her longevity to eating creamy cakes and chocolate.

‘She lived on her own until she was 99 and is very well cared for at the community hospital where she enjoys watching television. She doesn’t want to know what age she is as she is very young at heart. She always had a sweet tooth and never worried about her diet or exercise.’ Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to the hospital staff for organising a memorable birthday celebration for Loretta, as well as the continued care and attention they provide to Loretta and Maria.
