€5.4m housing boost for Rosbercon
TWENTY EIGHT new homes are on the way for Rosbercon.
The announcement marks the first major construction boost for New Ross, where hundreds of people are on the housing waiting list. Information obtained by Minister Paul Kehoe from the Department of Housing confirms that the units will be built at Rosbercon.
The homes have passed stage one approval at an overall cost of €5.473m. They will be rolled out under the Social Housing Investment programme.
Minister Kehoe said: ‘While housing remains among the greatest challenges facing the Government, this is another example of the progress being made.’
Two other social housing estates are also planned for New Ross in Castlemoyle and Hewittsland.
Senior Housing Officer Padraig O’Gorman told a meeting of New Ross Municipal District in April: `We have been liaising with the housing agencies. We had land that went into the land aggrigation scheme and we have been in talks with housing agencies about accessing it.’
Mr O’Gorman said a housing scheme is planned for Castlemoyle, while housing bodies have expressed an interest in building an estate in Hewittsland. ‘ The county architect worked on developing a scheme of houses on land in Rosbercon,’ he said.
