€5.4m hous­ing boost for Ros­ber­con

TWENTY EIGHT new homes are on the way for Ros­ber­con.

The an­nounce­ment marks the first ma­jor con­struc­tion boost for New Ross, where hun­dreds of peo­ple are on the hous­ing wait­ing list. In­for­ma­tion ob­tained by Min­is­ter Paul Ke­hoe from the Depart­ment of Hous­ing con­firms that the units will be built at Ros­ber­con.

The homes have passed stage one ap­proval at an over­all cost of €5.473m. They will be rolled out un­der the So­cial Hous­ing In­vest­ment pro­gramme.

Min­is­ter Ke­hoe said: ‘While hous­ing re­mains among the great­est chal­lenges fac­ing the Govern­ment, this is an­other ex­am­ple of the progress be­ing made.’

Two other so­cial hous­ing es­tates are also planned for New Ross in Castle­moyle and He­witts­land.

Se­nior Hous­ing Of­fi­cer Padraig O’Gor­man told a meeting of New Ross Mu­nic­i­pal District in April: `We have been li­ais­ing with the hous­ing agen­cies. We had land that went into the land ag­gri­ga­tion scheme and we have been in talks with hous­ing agen­cies about ac­cess­ing it.’

Mr O’Gor­man said a hous­ing scheme is planned for Castle­moyle, while hous­ing bod­ies have ex­pressed an in­ter­est in build­ing an es­tate in He­witts­land. ‘ The county ar­chi­tect worked on de­vel­op­ing a scheme of houses on land in Ros­ber­con,’ he said.
