Intoxicated man in ambulance was abusive to garda

-

PUBLIC ORDER and motoring offence landed Tristram Dunne (32), 37 Monastery Avenue, Taghmon before Judge Gerard Haughton at the District Court in Wexford.

The court heard that Dunne had already apologised to Detective Sergeant Michael Troy for his intoxicated behaviour at Kilmore on May 7.

The sergeant recalled that the defendant was found that day lying on the roadway.

There was no sign of injury and he had been covered with a duvet while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

He was strapped into a wheelchair before being lifted into the ambulance when it arrived and he became unruly once inside.

Sergeant Troy was deputed to accompany the defendant to hospital at the request of the paramedics.

The escorting garda became the target of abuse from the accused, whose shouting and roaring was described as aggressive.

The witness agreed that Dunne was a very different individual when sober and accepted the apology offered when the two men met recently in the street.

Also dealt with at the same sitting of the court was a drink drive offence which occurred at Gurteens in November of last year.

Dunne was fined €200 for threatening/abusive behaviour, €400 for drink driving and €300 for driving without valid insurance. The father of one was also put off the road for two years.
