THE ART OF THE BOOK
Hundreds of artists’ books will be on display when the Artists’ Books Symposium makes a welcome return to Wexford for a weekend of talks and workshops at the Stella Maris Hall in Kilmore Quay from Friday, November 30 to Sunday, December 2.
The Symposium puts the Artists Book- and perhaps more importantly the Artists Book maker – centre stage. The keynote speaker on Saturday will be Sarah Bodman, a Senior Research Fellow for Artists’ Books at the Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR) at the University of West England.
Other visiting artists will include Radoslaw Nowakowski from Poland and Hugh Bryden from Scotland’s Roncadora Press.
Artists from Ireland will include Sioban Piercy, Vanessa Dawes, Jim Butler, Judy Kravis of Road Books, Andy Parsons and Glenn Holman of Floating World Books, and Katie Blackwood, Librarian at the National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) at NCAD.
This project will appeal to everyone in the artists’ book world but also art students, designers and anyone interested in general art appreciation.
During the Symposium over 500 artists books will be on view, including the Wexford Artists Book Collection, as well as works by Elephants Tail Press, Road Books, Sun moon and Stars press, Red Fox Press, Roncadora press, Floating World books. T
here will be a show and tell table for visiting participants to bring their latest works on an outing too. A workshop is planned for Sunday afternoon and all are welcome to attend.
The event is funded through the Wexford County Council Arts Office and admission is open to the public on a pay what you can basis. No booking is required to attend talks.
