10 When A Man Loves A Woman Michael Bolton Michael Jackson’s 1991 album ‘Dangerous’ had a difficult birth: it took over two years to record, using seven different studios, and involved the recording of 60 to 70 songs which were eventually whittled down to a final 14. It was Jackson’s first album since 1975 not produced by Quincy Jones as the singer aimed to appeal to a younger, urban audience. Black or White, the first single released from Dangerous, was a number one hit across the globe and a record-breaker in many territories. The second best selling single of 1991 in the US – selling over a million – it was the fastest chart topper there since the Beatles’ ‘Get Back’ in 1969. In the UK it was the first single from an American artist to go straight in at number one since Elvis Presley’s ‘It’s Now Or Never’ in 1960.
