Students to perform Fiddler on the Roof

-

THE students from Our Lady of Lourdes and CBS Secondary schools present their bi-annual musical in St. Michael’s Theatre this weekend.

Fiddler on the Roof will be given the full treatment and the village of Anatevka will be brought to life for three nights only. Rehearsals have been ongoing for the past two months and the final preparations are being put in place with cast and crew excited to put on this timeless show.

Such well known songs like ‘If I were a Rich Man’, ‘Sunrise Sunset’ and ‘ To Life’ feature in this show of impressive local talent. Students from First to Sixth Year play the many parts.

The production is in the very capable hands of musical director Kevin Kennedy and choreographer Catherine Ronan. The set is designed and constructed by Terry Brennan and lighting is by Paul Malone, with stunning costumes by Susan Synnott, Hilda Kent and Margaret Bowe.

In a departure from previous shows the role of Tevye is played by teacher Martyn Gladney, who is no stranger to the stage. His wife Golde is played by newcomer Tara Furness, a Transition Year student, who is utterly convincing in her role.

The story of Fiddler, a small community being driven from its home, is as relevant today as ever, and despite the jollity and humour, there is a strong message in this show.

Tickets are on sale at the box office or online at St. Michael’s Theatre at €12. The performances commence at 8 p.m.
