We’ve a lobster pot Christmas tree!
SWITCHING-ON OF THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN FETHARD-ON-SEA
THE NEW MAYOR of Fethard had his first official engagement on Sunday night, turning on the Christmas lights in the village, which proudly boasts Ireland’s only lobster pot Christmas tree.
Not only did Pirate Pat turn on the street lights, he turned on the lights on the only lobster pot Christmas tree to great fanfare in the seaside village.
Pirate Pat said he was ‘ very emoceanat the event, to be joined by a very special visitor, none other than Santa Claus, who arrived in the RNLI Lifeboat much to the delight of the children gathered around the tree.
Yellow Welly tree decorations were lovingly produced by the pupils in Scoil Mhaodhoig and sold in aid of the RNLI. The pupils wrote personal messages on each one before they were attached to the tree. Some decorations are still available (in exchange for a donation to the RNLI) in most local premises in the village.
The top of the tree was adorned with a beautiful star donated by Tommy Kelly of Bevel Furniture. Local businesses and Hook Lighthouse kindly provided refreshments on the street in exchange for a donation. Earlier in the afternoon the local Country Market group held a wonderful Christmas Market which included all the usual vendors and a few pop-up stalls. In all, it was a wonderful kick-start to the festive season in Fethard-on-Sea. The Fethard Village Development Committee would like to thank everyone who helped make the day a success including Pete Barry, Pat Mason, Sean Neville, Brendan O’Callaghan, John Nolan, Mick Nolan, David Power, Sandra Dillon-Howes, Julie Parslow and Liam Ryan.
