Oisin ensures Foulksmills roads back in Ross district

-

IN his last motion, at his last council meeting, Sinn Fein Cllr Oisin O’Connell got his entire local village included back in the New Ross municipal district for road maintenance, after the Boundary Commission severed the village between New Ross and Kilmore districts last year.

The road and areas north of the road connecting Stoneenrath Crossroads, through Hares Mead Bridge, along the R736 from Rosspile, through Longraigue Cross Roads, towards Bryanstown Bridge have all been included after Cllr O’Connell’s motion received unanimous support at the monthly meeting of New Ross Municipal district council.

Cllr O’Connell said asked if it was possible to have a slight variation in the districts decided upon by the Boundary Commission. ‘ This is to prevent Foulksmills ending up with half a speed bump in one district and the other half in another. It’s for efficiency to have the village as a single unit within the New Ross Municipal district to include the entire village.’

Cllr Michael Sheehan seconded the motion and Cllr Michael Whelan jokingly asked if the village can be included in the electoral register as well.

District director Eamonn Hore said: ‘ There is precedent for this in the Gorey area. It would make sense for the village to be included.’
