Balmy winter day spares Slade swimmers’ shivers

- By DAVID LOOBY

THE unseasonally warm weather made taking a festive dip a little easier for 25 brave souls in Slade.

Hosted by members of Slade Swimming Club and Hook Sub Aqua Club, club members and local residents dived in with gusto to Slade Harbour for the annual tradition, cheered on by a large crowd, who were comfortably wrapped up warm on the side of the harbour.

Georgina Chapman of Slade Swimming Club, said: ‘We had a great turn out for the annual Christmas swim. There were approximately 25 swimmers taking part, with a crowd of about 40 onlookers and supporters. The fundraising event was a great success for all. Conditions were perfect with what started out as a mild shower became a clear, and windless sky. Water temperatures were cold but thankfully the mild day made the event a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.’

The swimmers enjoyed warm refreshments and some festive snacks having helped to raise money for both local clubs.
