‘Hospice homecare gave amazing care to my dad’

New Ross Standard - - NEWS - Sandra Doyle

ON April 7 I will take part in the Hope and Dream 10 and I look forward to standing on the prom in Enniscorthy with the thousands of other participants waiting for the race to start.

I have taken part in all the Hope and Dream races and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one. There is always a great atmosphere on the prom on the morning of the race. Of course, there is a more serious side to the Hope and Dream 10. This year the money raised from sponsorship will go to the Hope Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorthy and to Wexford Hospice Homecare. My dad, Noel Matthews, was one of the people who set up the Hope Centre following his own cancer diagnosis. It gives me a great sense of pride to take part in this excellent fundraiser knowing that the money raised will allow the wonderful Hope Centre to continue to operate. The services provided by the Hope Centre are invaluable to the people who use them.

In the months before my dad passed away, Wexford Hospice Homecare provided the most amazing care and reassurance for my dad and my family. We all had many concerns and questions about what was

happening. The staff of Wexford Hospice Homecare were amazing. They guided us with kindness and sensitivity through what was a heart-breaking and challenging time.

They lightened the load for us and for this we will be forever grateful. The service provided by Wexford Hospice Homecare is invaluable and I am delighted that money raised through Hope and Dream 10 will allow the homecare team to continue to help patients and their families into the future.

To anyone who is thinking about registering for Hope and Dream 10, I would say go for it. It is such an enjoyable experience.

There is no pressure to finish it in a particular time and it can be a great opportunity to meet up with friends and family and go for a lovely walk/run. You will also be helping to keep two crucial services running for the people of County Wexford. I wish everyone who takes part and those who are organising the event, the very best of luck. See you all on April 7 at 10.15 a.m. on the prom in Enniscorthy.
