Followed mother-in law with slash hook
A Probation Officer’s report has been sought in the case of a Wexford man who was apprehended by Gardaí as he followed an elderly lady with a slash hook.
[NAME WITHELD] was charged with being drunk in public and having possession of a dangerous or offensive weapon, to wit a slash hook, at Green Street on January 29 last year.
The court heard that the defendant was spotted by Gardaí as he carried the large implement at 12.06 a.m. while following an elderly woman, who transpired to be his mother-in-law.
The court heard that the Gardaí stopped him and asked him to hand over the implement, but he refused.
His brother was with him at the time, and he also encouraged him to hand over the slash hook.
The 36-year-old defendant apologised to the court. He said he had consumed quite a lot of drink at the time.
Judge O Buachalla adjourned the case for a Probation Officer’s report and ordered that the defendant ‘immediately address his alcohol problem.’
