Students shine in Lions Den interview

-

Presentations were made in St Mary’s Secondary School and Good Counsel College to the winners of the New Ross Lions Club Mock Interview Project.

Prizes were in the form of New Ross & District Chamber Shopping Vouchers as an acknowledgement of the support that local businesses have given over the years both to New Ross Lions Club and to the work experience programmes of the Transition Years in the local schools.

This is the fifth year of the project and in excess of 320 TY students from Our Lady of Lourdes Rosbercon, Good Counsel College, Kennedy College, St Mary’s Secondary School and Ramsgrange Community College were interviewed by the volunteer members of New Ross Lions Club in November and December. The idea behind the project is to give students practical experience of a workplace interview scenario and provide them with positive feedback to assist them in the future. Each student is provided with a certificate of participation for inclusion in their Transition Year portfolio. Project coordinators Michael Seale and Myles Courtney expressed their delight with the success of the project to date and the fact that it is now firmly established as part of the TY curriculum in these five local schools. ‘We are really impressed with the enthusiasm with which the Transition Year coordinators and teachers have embraced this project. The young people involved are a source of inspiration to us also and make our own involvement all the more rewarding.’
