Jerry was a kind family man with a love for nature

-

JEREMIAH (JERRY) MOORE, who died on January 13, aged 75, was a private, kind family man who had a deep love for nature.

Late of Elsinore, Tinnakilly, Rosbercon, Jerry died after a short illness at University Hospital Waterford. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret; daughter Yvonne; sons Seán and Diarmuid; brother Michael; sister Helen and grandchildren Danny, Louise and Nina. Jerry was predeceased by his brother William.

He spent his early years in County Kerry, growing up in a village her Listowel. His father John, who was a teacher and his mother Josie, moved the family to New Ross when John took up a teaching post at Good Counsel College. Jerry attended New Ross CBS and Good Counsel College. From a young age he loved watching Wexford teams hurl and never missed a match on the television.

His focus shifted somewhat to rugby over the years, but he always maintained a love for the small ball game.

Jerry attended University College Cork and went on to work at Boland’s in accounts and as manager.

He met his wife to be Margaret at a dance in Waterford where she was working as a telephonist and they were married in 1968. They moved to Tinnakilly where they would spend many years together with their children.

A man of quiet pleasures, Jerry loved doing crosswords and was never without two daily papers. His other great love was being out in nature, be it at the John F Kennedy Arboretum or at Hook Head. He had developed a love of mountains and exploring them in his youth and always enjoyed seeing the scenic highlights the region afforded.

Jerry loved getting back to rural Kerry where he spent seemingly endless, happy summers during his childhood.

A private, kind man, Jerry enjoyed good health throughout his life. He was a man of deep faith who attended 8 a.m. Mass in the Carmelite’s Church.

Jerry received his diagnosis in November and despite battling his illness with bravery, passed away two months later peacefully, Margaret by his side, aged 75.

A crowd attended his funeral Mass at the Church of the Assumption in Rosbercon, where Fr Michael Collender spoke of Jerry’s faith.

Jerry’s passing is deeply felt by his loving family and his son-in-law Colm, daughter-inlaw Laura, grandchildren Danny, Louise and Nina, relatives, neighbours and friends.
