COURTOWN

The Wednesday sweep played over twelve holes was won by Kevin Horan (19) with 29 points.

John G. Kinsella (20) was second with 26 points, and Eamon Byrne (13) was third with 24 points.

The any combinatio­n fourball played over 15 holes on February 2-3 was won by Tom Kitt (21) and Joe Turner (12) with 39 points (last six). Runners-up were Eamonn Siggins (22) and Marion Siggins (27), also with 39 points.

Week three of the Race to Patrick’s Day nine-hole competitio­n was won by John G. Kinsella (20) with 21 points. John Creagh (19) was second on 19 points.

NEW ROSS LADIES

Wednesday, January 30, 14-hole stableford sponsored by Ray French: 1, Anne Curtis Adm. (20), 28 points; 2, Peggy Hill (30), 28 – 1 penalty point = 27 points; 3, Marguerite Sutton (17), 26 – 1 penalty point = 25 points.

This week’s competitio­n on Wednesday, February 6, is 14-hole stableford sponsored by Lulu Boutique.

There are lines on the timesheet for the nine-hole competitio­n also.

There will be a presentati­on on Wednesday, February 6, at 7.30 p.m. which will cover all the competitio­ns from January 9. There is a list of winners to date in the hallway to the ladies’ locker room. We ask all prize-winners to attend.

The presentati­on of prizes will be followed by an input from Mary Dowling on teams and team management, and also the impact of the new rules of golf on matchplay. We hope to see lots of lady members in the clubhouse on that night.

The final round of the winter league has to be played by Wednesday, February 13. The competitio­n is exciting with current scores very close, so get out there ladies and do your best for your team!

The Captains’ drive-in will take place on Sunday, February 17. Following on the success of a very sociable event last year, there will be a mixed foursomes competitio­n once again to start off the season.

This year’s drive-in is once again sponsored by Creacon Lodge who were very generous sponsors last year.

Members wishing to take part should enter their names in the Pro Shop by Thursday, February 14. A draw for partners will take place on the Thursday evening.

The drive-in will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start so all teams finish together. This will be followed by a meal and presentati­on in the clubhouse.

The cost is €15 to include a three-course meal (main course, dessert and coffee). We look forward to an enjoyable day and hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

Winter league Group 1 (match to decide group): Pádraig Grainger and Christy Dodson had one point to spare over Richard McDonald and Troy Kenny to win the group.

They will play Group 2 winners Rob Bradley and Garry Doyle in the final.

NEW ROSS

Due to the severe frost over the weekend, the strokeford competitio­n sponsored by Seamus Doyle Painting Contractor has been re-scheduled for Saturday, February 16. Anyone who played last Saturday can avail of a free re-entry. Next weekend sees the final round of the winter league sponsored by Hartley’s Motorcraft New Ross.
