Civic event for centenary panto

-

CALLS were made for a special civic event to be organised by the council to mark a century of panto in New Ross.

Cllr Anthony Connick said two of New Ross panto’s leading lights have been named grand marshals for the parade, adding: ‘In fairness 100 years is a long time in New Ross to have panto’.

Cllr Michael Sheehan said: ‘I think we need to do a civic event for the pantomime group. I think, in Ireland, it’s the longest continuaously running pantomime group.’

He also called for St Michael’s Theatre and the workmen’s club to be afforded a civic reception.

‘St Michael’s Theatre is 100 years old and the New Ross workmen’s Club is 120 years going. The amount of work they have done free of charge for this community has been immense,’ Cllr Sheehan said.
