BARROW’S BLAZING SADDLES!
AROUND 200 cyclists took on the first sportive of the year, cycling 100 kilometres from New Ross to Waterford and looping back home through County Kilkenny.
The Barrow Sportive usually takes place in late January but was held on February 10 this year. Cyclists from across the south east gathered on a beautiful, if chilly, spring morning at Good Counsel College to give themselves a stern test travelling from New Ross along the N25 to the Waterford sliproad, and on to Mullinavat, Ballyhale, Stoneyford, Rathpatrick, Bennettsbridge and with a tail wind at their back on to Thomastown, Inistioge and over the Ferry Bridge back to Good Counsel College.
A Barrow Wheelers club spokesperson said: ‘Like all club events these are done with the help of committees and sub committees. It takes a lot of time and hard work to safely put everything in place. It could not be run without some great club men and women and their families who volunteer their time to give something back to there local club and cycling community which we are grateful to be apart of. We would like to thank all the cyclists and clubs for coming down and we appreciate all your support. To the Good Counsel College for their use of there fantastic facilities, to all the road and motorbike marshals, first aid, to the Garda support for keeping us safe, to all the support
