Famous Pikeman statue on move
February 1998
One of Wexford town’s best known landmarks, the Pikeman statue, will be on the move shortly as the Corporation gives the Bullring a ’98 revamp.
Historians shouldn’t fret however, as the statue will remain in the Bullring, and is only being re-sited within a few feet of its current position.
The Corporation is also planning a major paving job for the Bullring area, which will be similar to the cobble-locking at both North Main Street and High Street.
There will also be other associated amenities put in place, while it is likely that unsightly ESB and Telecom wires will be removed from the area.
The work, which is due to start in the first week of March, is expected to take at least two months to complete. Copies of the traffic management plan will be available to motorists within the next week or so.
An artists impression of the finalised job is currently on public display in the Wexford Corporation building. The exact cost of the project has not yet been disclosed, but should be released within the next few days.
