CONGRATULA­TIONS to twelveyear-old Emmet Cousins who represente­d Scoil Mhuire (Coolcotts) at the Irish Minor schools swimming championsh­ips in Dublin recently.

Emmet swam in the heats to finish in fourth place and earn a place in the finals.

He then powered home in a great race to finish in second place in the 50m backstroke with a new personal best time of 34.08 seconds, missing first place by 0.15 of a second.

Emmet also swam in the 100m I.M. in 1.18.74, taking 3.68 seconds off his previous time.

This was Emmet’s last Minor competitio­n as he moves ages up to Senior next year.

He has had a great run at Minor level, achieving four golds in four consecutiv­e years at the Leinster Minor schools.

He has also just achieved his first Irish Division 1 qualifying times for the Irish Division 1 championsh­ips in the summer.

Emmet is a member of Wexford Swimming Club and Wexford Pool and Surf Lifesaving Club.
