SYMPATHY

The Gusserane area was shocked and saddened two weekends ago when news filtered through of the tragic passing of Ballygarva­n man, Mick Kehoe. Sincere sympathy is extended to Paula, Joe and Áine and to the entire Kehoe family on their sad loss. The huge crowd that attended Mick’s funeral, many from his beloved rallying fraternity, was testament to the esteem in which he was held within the locality and beyond.

BEE KEEPING

The New Ross Bee Keeping Associatio­n will have bee-master, John Donohoe give a talk on ‘Spring Bee Keeping’ in Corcoran’s in the Irishtown, New Ross on Monday, February 25. It starts at 7.30 p.m. and all interested parties are welcome.

DANCE

Gusserane parish council will hold a night of social dancing in Gusserane Hall on Friday, March 15. Proceeds are in aid of church funds, and more particular­ly towards a fill of heating oil.

Tickets will be widely on sale in the area in the lead up to the dance and your support would be most welcome. Music on the night is by the popular Delta Dawn. Dancing is from 9.30 p.m. to midnight with a break for tea.

The organisers would be delighted to have a full house and look forward to your support. Tickets only €5. Please take note of the date.

RUN/WALK

Ballyculla­ne parents’ associatio­n are holding a 5k and 10k Run/Walk on Sunday, March 10. It starts at 10 a.m. and registrati­on is from 9 a.m. that day. Entry costs €10 with under-16 participan­ts costing €5 and a family of four costing €25.

LOTTO SYNDICATE

We are now entering the final week to join the Gusserane GAA Club’s lotto Syndicate. The club’s major fundraiser this year is aimed towards putting in a gym in the club house in Gusserane. It involves getting 300 people to sign up to €20 per month for a full year. Payment includes you in a large lotto syndicate where you will be included in the National Lottery and Euromillio­ns Draw each week for the year and also includes a paid up ticket for the Model County Draw.

There will be two lucky winners drawn from the hat each month as well as a special draw for fully paid up members. Further details are available from any member of the Gusserane GAA Club executive committee and from the Gusserane GAA Facebook and GORahilly Twitter accounts.

COFFEE MORNING

Senior citizens Concern CLG are holding a coffee morning on Tuesday, February 19, from 9 a.m. to noon in St Louis Day Care Centre. Proceeds in aid of the Day Care Centre.

GAA NEWS

The New Ross District GAA will hold their annual awards night on Friday, March 15. The Gusserane club’s recipient this year will be Mikey Hennessy from Garryculle­n. Anyone wanting to attend the function in the Horse and Hound are asked to get their name to Shane Cullen, Lorraine O’Neill or Paudie Foran as soon as possible. Gusserane’s senior footballer­s will be keen to get their season off to a good start when they take on Adamstown in the Tommy Murphy Cup next weekend. Best of luck also to our minor footballer­s who will take on St James in the O’Loughlin Cup shortly.

LOTTO

Lotto results for Tuesday, February 12, saw the numbers 4, 5, 16 and 24 drawn. There were no match three or no jackpot winners. Jackpot next week is €6,200 and the match three will mean a win or share of €400.

SYMPATHY

The death took place last week of Pat Phelan Snr of Garryduff. Originally from Co Tipperary, Pat married and settled in Garryduff. He is survived by his wife Mary, son Pat, and daughters Bernie and Theresa. Sincere sympathy is extended to his family and friends on their sad loss.
