CORACH RAMBLERS NEWS

Congratulations to this week’s split-the-pot winner Jessica Power, who won €514. We would like to thank Costcutters in Wellingtonbridge for housing our new collection box/table.

On the field each of the senior teams had close calls. The ladies were up against premier opposition in the quarter final of the inter divisional shield tournament. Niamh Nessi Millar gave Corach the lead after 10 minutes following a great through ball that still required skill to beat the keeper. In fact some great play kept it that way up to the half time whistle. The second half was barely minutes old and the game had swung completely with two quick Courtown goals. However, the ladies were not in the mood to give up. Tracy brick wall Sinnott left her sweeper position to nod on a corner for Shakira O’Connor to slot home. The game ended 2-2. Intro extra time Sal Eustace should have been awarded a penalty but wasn’t. Into the second half of extra time Courtown took the lead from a corner to make it 3-2. At this stage we needed some magic and it came from a great run from Nessi but ended with a shocking tackle. Unfortunately after such a long injury delay the resulting penalty kick narrowly missed the top corner and the game was over. A true display of great heart and team spirit.

The Men’s B team lost 3-2 to Camolin. The first half of the game was a great team performance which saw it finish on a scoreline of 1-1. Eoin O’Connor was on target. Into the second half Camolin began to dominate and scored two goals before John Reville pulled one back to make it 2-3. The home side could not find the equaliser to grab a point.

Finally the Men’s A were up against Tombrack. In a game of ‘what ifs’ the home side should have been one or two goals up before Tombrack scored from a corner. This was then followed by another three goals before Seán Byrne got one back. Joe Sinnott hit the post from a free kick and Niall Harney hit the crossbar from a penalty. Unfortunately the game ended 4-1 to Tombrack.

However – the future is very bright judging by the underage talent we have. Well done Shane and Cillian, who played for Wexford’s under-15s as they defeated Carlow 3-1.
