Growing Ramsgrange scout group celebrate bumper year of service
MORE than 200 people attended the 36th Ramsgrange scout group’s investiture night in Duncannon Pastoral Centre.
One of the biggest scouting organisation in the county – with 94 scouts – celebrated a bumper year. The Parent’s Night saw the hall packed, with 13 Beavers invested, along with two cubs and four scouts.
Cubs, venture scouts, scouts and beavers alike gave detailed presentations about the activities they enjoyed during the year, the fundraising initiatives they were involved in and more.
After a decade Eileen Murphy retired as Scout leader. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a voucher from Mandy O’Connor on behalf of Duncannon Scouts for her fantastic service to scouts locally.
Representing Duncannon Village Renewal Michelle Wallace presented a cheque for €2,008 to the scouting group for their assistance during this year’s sandsculpting festival.
Amounting to half of the profits from this year’s festival, the group leader Mandy O’Connor expressed her gratitude to the proactive local group for the donation.
€800 was presented to Focus Ireland homeless charity – the proceeds from a Shine A Light sleep out 25 Ramsgrange scouts participated in last month when they erected a makeshift tent behind Duncannon NS.
New scouting county commissioner Rachel Brennan was in attendance for the event where five year service awards were presented to: Anya Shannon, Mark Brennan, Eoin Roche, Hazel Cassidy and Eoin O’Connor and Elaine McDonald was the recipient of a tenyear service award. Prize winners in the County Orienteering Competition – following the scouts’ winning top prizes – were recognised and there was great excitement as badges were presented to 13 Beavers.
There is a waiting list for the growing scouting group presently and any adult who wishes to become a leader to contact the local organisation.
