GREYHOUND RACING
THERE WAS a good card on offer at Enniscorthy dog track on Thursday, and race seven, the Carlow Foods A3 Stake final, saw the John Doyle-owned Kiltrea Shay score a nice win.
He won this race by running a strong first bend to go around in the middle ground from his trap four draw to lead off the second bend.
And he was in control of the race from this point on to run out a clear winner by four lengths from favourite Janefield Angel in a fast 29.07 -30 slow.
Race four saw Sniffer Dog again show his liking for the longer run-in of the 550 yards trip when, as usual, he trailed the field from the break but he moved up through the pack quickly to get into a nice position off the last bend.
He came through between pace-setters
On The Tools and Leah’s Superior to score snugly enough in the end for owner Ray Stafford in a time of 31.02 -30 slow.
The Black and Amber Unraced Stake continued on Monday night, with all four second round heats completed.
The quickest run came in heat four when Kereight Henry showed marginally the better early form to lead at the first bend and ran on well to hold the favourite, Ratheden Yevande, who made up good ground to finish only a couple of lengths adrift by the line in a good time of 29.17 -30 slow.
The semi-finals this week will be tight affairs, and the all-important break and run to the first bend will be vital in what looks a good unraced stake.
Racing will move to Friday nights from this week instead of Thursday night for the Christmas season.
