Man tasered after violent use of hurl

A MAN who was acting violently, swinging a hurl around and shouting at people in Pearse Park in New Ross ended up being tasered after refusing to comply with the Garda Armed Support Unit.

Gardaí received complaints about a man in his forties acting in a very aggressive manner in Pearse Park at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Armed with a hurl, he was engaging with people on what was a glorious day and a busy one in the park.

A garda spokesperson said local gardaí, assisted by the armed unit, attended the scene and tried to speak with the man.

‘He refused to desist from acting in a threatening manner. Despite repeated requests for him to drop the weapon he refused to comply and was threatening towards gardaí. He was disarmed by the Armed Support Unit and tasered. He was placed in Garda custody and detained under the Mental Health Act.’
