Ruby raises €1,450 for local hospital

-

THE COLOURFUL art of local girl Ruby Kehoe has raised €1,450 for New Ross Community Hospital.

Making tie-dye like art pieces started off as a Covid-19 hobby for Ruby (7) after she saw them being made on RTE School Hub.

Her mother Leeann said: ‘When she made them she got the idea that she could maybe sell them.’

Using shaving foam on cardboard with squirts of food colouring, Ruby scrapes off the foam leaving behind a unique piece of art.

‘ They are very therapeutic. She sold her first one to her Nanny and the I suggested she sell them to raise money that we could donate. Her great-uncle Jack attended the community hospital off and on and she said she wanted to donate the money to “Jack’s hospital.’

Leeann put images of her daughter’s art on Facebook and set up a GoFundMe page.

‘It just took off. It got so big her brother Robbie (10) got on board and he is now working on the production line.’

The GoFundMe page raised around €1,275, with other cash donations also made.

The kind hearted and spirited Catherine McAuley pupil is thrilled with the response, as is her mother who has been busy posting out and delivering the art to buyers from their Grange Road home.

Some have been sent to relations living as far away as London and New York.

Leeann said: ‘A massive thanks to all who donated and to the junior and senior school in New Ross who were full of support for the fundraiser.’
