45 complaints to GSOC in 2019

FORTY-FIVE complaints were made to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) last year by Wexford residents.

Nationally 1,756 complaints were received by GSOC in 2019. The figures quoted in the annual report relate to complaints made to GSOC by members of the public. There were two referrals from the Wexford Garda Division.

The most common circumstances which gave rise to complaints in 2019 were: the conduct of investigations by garda; conduct of garda when effecting an arrest; road policing incidents; customer service by garda and conduct of garda when searching property and/or persons.

In 2018 there were almost double the number of complaints, at 81.
