Moving ships to Rosslare ‘logical’ – IRHA

PRESIDENT of the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) Eugene Drennan has described the suggested moving of shops and shipping activity from Dublin Port to Rosslare Europort as a logical step.

Formed in 1973 to represent the interests of Ireland’s licensed road haulage industry both at a national and international level, the IRHA is the recognised national representative body of the licensed road haulage industry in the Republic of Ireland.

The association seeks to promote professionalism, excellence and safety in the operation of road transport businesses. Mr Drennan said: ‘Rosslare is a logical fit for Dublin Ports activities. It is the port of choice for hauliers and provides the most efficient logistics solutions for their clients.’

He said hauliers have no desire to clog up traffic in the capital city, saying it is a complete waste of their resources to have drivers sitting in traffic for long periods of time adding to noxious emissions. ‘Rosslare is the closest port to mainland Europe and provides a viable alternative to the landbridge in the context of Brexit. Rosslare is as accessible as Dublin port. Parties serious about, engaging transport stakeholders, dealing with the carbon emission agenda and Brexit, must make the movement of the Dublin Port activities to Rosslare top of their agenda,’ he said.
