A LOOK BACK IN TIME

The following are the Horeswood Notes from this week back in May 2000.

ABBEY MASS - On Sunday next, which is Pilgrimage Sunday, mass will be celebrated in Dunbrody Abbey. People from different townslands are asked to walk to the Abbey in procession but there will be parking facilities for those unable to walk. This is the first time Mass will be celebrated in the Abbey since the 1982 Dunbrody Festival.

WEDDING BELLS - Congratula­tions to Bridget Furlong, Dunbrody and Declan Quinn, Arnestown who were married in Horeswood Church last Saturday.The reception was held in Brandon House.

Ballykelly Whist - 1st lady: Betty Murphy and Mary Whitty. half time; Joan Howlin. 1st

Gent: George Harrell. 2nd: Willie Lyng. Half time: Michael Martin. Specials: Kathleen Hunt, Regina Murphy, Michael Moore, Peggy O’Neill. There will be a special whist on June 7th in aid of the African mission Fund.

BOXING SUCCESS - Michael Ryan, Abbeyview, who is coached by Billy Walsh in the St. Ibar’s Club, who won a National Youths title earlier in the year, and has now moved into the Junior grade, was successful in the National quarter finals in Dublin last Saturday.

ON COUNTY TEAM - Thomas Howlin, midfield, and Leigh O’Brien, who scored 0-8 (0-7) from frees, from half forward, were on the Wexford Senior Football team which beat Carlow 2-11 to 1-10 in the round robin series in the Leinster Championsh­ip and must now play Wicklow in the last game.
