worst losing one either.

The sires on which to focus from a value perspective are Danehill Dancer, Montjeu, Cape Cross and Sea The Stars. Dubawi has made a big profit but from three big outsiders (50/1 Arabian Queen, 40/1 Night Of Thunder, 33/1 Makfi, the last two both in the 2000 Guineas) and is unreliable in terms of repeatability.

However, one can profit from Galileo as a sire when he’s been matched to a mare by any of Danehill Dancer, Storm Cat, Pivotal, Choisir or Cape Cross. These are very common crosses for Coolmore, the owners of Galileo and the pre-eminent bloodstock empire.

Collectively those crosses have produced 28 winners from 90 runners (31% strike rate) for a profit at SP of 33.96 points. Focusing on fillies only gives us 19 winners from 67 runners (28%) and a profit of 37.59 points (56% ROI).

The message is clear: when it comes to Group 1 races, Galileo remains the cream of the crop. But he is more likely to pay dividends when matched to one of the five damsires named above. The most recent example, Hermosa, was the only Galileo filly in the 1000 Guineas, and she was sired by a Pivotal mare. Of course, she won, at 14/1 (18.21 Betfair). SP).
