Dave Youngman reports on the Queen’s exciting juveniles

- daveyoungman@btinternet.com RA

We are all now looking forward to the July Festival here at Newmarket from July 8-10. Do get here if you can as we have some very good horses ready to run including some smart juveniles.

I hope you like my picture of a horse cooling down among the trees after working over on the Limekilns, some peace and tranquility amid the action.

JAMES Fanshawe has THE TIN MAN back at his Pegasus yard and the horse will be used as a hack now. Sadly he fractured a cannon bone and it has had to be screwed at the equine hospital. The accident happened during a routine piece of work and just goes to show how fragile these horses are.

SIR Michael Stoute was delighted to win the Golden Jubilee at Ascot with Dream Of Dreams and his good pal Michael Holding was there with him to enjoy it all. Michael is a regular out on the gallops here at HQ and is a delight to talk to.

MOHAAFETH gave William and Mo Haggas great pleasure when the son of Frankel won the Hampton Court Stakes at the Royal meeting. He has come out of the race well and you would not know he had had a race. He will stay at 10 furlongs for the time being but may well come back in distance to a mile later on.

FRANKEL ended up leading sire at Ascot with three winners. Along with producing Adayar, the recent Derby winner, means he has had a wonderfully successful time as a stallion. Having seen him recently at Banstead Manor Stud, I must say what a brilliant job Rob Bowley does looking after him.

We have several as yet unraced juveniles in our HQ yards by him that look very impressive.

ONE of my favourite former Newmarket-trained horses TWICE OVER is doing fine at Klawervlei Stud in South Africa. Stud owner John Koster is very happy with the son of Observatory and the progeny he is producing. John Freeman is doing a great job managing the stallion career of the horse and reports to me that Twice Over has a lovely juvenile filly named TWICE THE TRIP that won a stakes race recently and is looked upon as a top prospect.

IN his first crop he produced DO IT AGAIN that went on to be voted horse of the year in South Africa. When Covid relents and travel is easier I plan to take up an invitation to go to South Africa and see him.

IN our HQ stables we have some very impressive looking two-year-olds owned by Her Majesty the Queen and I highlight some here for you all to note.

Si Michael Stoute has in KITE FLYER a lovely colt by Iffraaj out of Danehill Dancer mare Star Value. This lad has not done much work yet but has a very pleasing attitude and looks a nice type.

TRANSPIRE is a son of Frankel out of Estimate, this colt will be seen to good purpose next season over middle distances in the Royal colours.

WILLIAM Haggas has some lovely Royal youngsters in his yard. CLEAR DAY is a Camelot colt out of Oasis Dream mare Dawn Glory that I like the look of a lot. His work has been very impressive already and he has a lovely long sweeping stride. EDUCATOR by Deep Impact is out of the Dubawi mare Diploma and is a beautifully moving colt that already looks very classy in his work.

PERFECT ALIBI is a Le Havre filly out of the mare Daphne that I have every confidence will do very well for Her Majesty in the course of time, this filly looks full of potential.

JOHN Gosden has four strikingly good-looking types in the Royal ownership. DUKEDOM, a Dubawi colt out of Nathra, is a juvenile working in very nice fashion and has a good future. REACH FOR THE MOON, son of Sea The Stars, ran so well recently at Royal Ascot and this February foal will have no trouble winning soon.

PARK STREET is a lovely moving New Approach colt out of the Street Cry mare City Chic. He was a May foal so has been given plenty of time but make no mistake he is already showing a lot in his work. SAGA, a bay colt by Invincible Spirit out of Emily Bronte, has just started in faster stronger work and looks very nice.

UNDER the guidance of Royal Racing advisor John Warren Her Majesty looks set fair for some nice winners in her colours in the not too distant future.
