Racing Ahead

NEWMARKET

Dave Youngman with his monthly round-up from HQ

WITH the hot, sunny summer finally here in thepast few days some of the grass gallops are now too firm to work the horses on. So, how good it is to have the watered gallops to use over on the Racecourse side of town. Even Sir Michael Stoute sent a couple over there to work on the easier ground, the master of Freemason Lodge is always looking to do what is best for his horses.

HOPE you like this photo of me waiting to go off to the gallops in the Stoute horsebox with a couple of horses to work over on Racecourse side.

SIR Michael hold the unraced KITEFLYER in the highest esteem. This son of Iffraaj is owned by the Queen and his work recently has been impressing us all out on the HQ gallops. Royal Racing manager John Warren came and watched work recently and from his reaction was clearly pleased.

WILLIAM and Mo Haggas are ever expanding their training facilities here in Newmarket. They have recently purchased Woodland Stables and intend to renovate that in the course of time and incorporate it with their Somerville Lodge establishment. They have two treadmills, vets box, salt box and a lovely spa. The Spa is so good for the horses after they have worked as they can stand in freezing cold water that cool the tendons down. The salt box allows the horses to breathe in particles of salt and that clears out their lungs.

IN the Haggas string as yet unraced juveniles HEBRIDES and LYSANDER are working away in most impressive fashion and not far off first races.

Rider Andrew Tinkler is a great help to the trainer as he is an excellent work rider. MOHAAFETH the son of Frankel and winner at Royal Ascot continues to get better with each piece of work and will stay in training next season as a four-year-old for the yard.

AMY Murphy is looking forward to welcoming stable favourite KALASHNIKOV back at the end of the month from his summer holiday out at grass and is hoping the son of Kalanisi can win a nice race or two for her

Southgate yard.

NEWMARKET Cricket Club are having a wonderful season and I have had the pleasure to watch some of their matches on the Severals.

Captain Mark Nunn is very happy how the season is going. They recently had former West Indies fast bowling legend Michael Holding there as guest of honour for the match against Waresley. He has long called Newmarket home and loves being out on the gallops with the Stoute horses.

WITH Racecourses now able to get back to full capacity I hope to see a lot of you readers coming here to Newmarket racing again, a very warm welcome awaits you all and we have some very good unraced horses to get out before the turf season come to an end.
