Iread an article recently about couples with a great friendship having an overall higher percentage of marital satisfaction. It went on to say that an emotional connection within a marriage or relationship is five times more important than the physical connection. In this issue we feature Ian Dempsey with his wife Ger, whose relationship spans over four decades as well as Celia Holman Lee and her husband, also called Ger, who first got together 57 years ago. If there is one thing for sure, both couples are great friends and seem to have a lot of fun together. It’s strange how relationships shift as the years and decades roll by; in the early days, life can be so busy building careers, creating a home and caring for small children, while in later years it becomes all about the couple again. It makes sense that strong friendships, a sense of fun and shared interests would make the transition from one phase to the next appealing. Celia talks about the unique love she feels for her grandchildren, a sentiment that is shared by many wellknown faces such as Sean O’Rourke, Mary Coughlan and Mary Kennedy. They all agree that time is something they enjoy sharing more than anything else with their grandchildren, something that was in shorter supply when their own children were young. Starting out on their married lives, we feature Fair City’s Ryan Andrews and his new bride Michaela O’Neill along with his former soap colleague Johnny Ward who tied the knot with Brenda Murphy. There’s a whole lot of loving going on in this mag, that’s for sure!
