LEANNE BROLLY SENIOR RISK MANAGER AT GENESIS

- genesis.aero

Can you tell us about your role?

Genesis is a mid-size full service commercial aircraft leasing platform founded in 2014 in Ireland. Our primary business is the leasing of aircraft and engines to airlines across the world.

But we also have a number of different business verticals, such as component trading and airline investment which add to the dynamics of my role versus a traditional aircraft leasing company. I work in the Genesis Risk Department. My primary role is carrying out credit risk analysis on the counterparties and markets we work with or would like to do business with in the future. What’s great about my role is I get to look at a bit of everything. It’s constantly changing and no two days are the same.

What is your favourite part of your job?

I love that all this analysis is not just done from sitting behind a desk. I am afforded the opportunity to travel as part of my role, meeting the various airlines and aviation experts, experiencing the different markets and cultures. In the past few weeks, I have been to Mexico, Vietnam, Chile, Miami and Thailand to name a few, and August is already filling up fast.

What are the biggest barriers you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?

A lack of confidence in my own abilities was my biggest barrier. Once I recognised that I was holding myself back because of it, I quickly altered my internal narrative. I would remind myself all I had achieved to date and that I am more than capable of anything that comes my way.

What is your personal mantra that keeps you driving forward?

If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me.

Which women have inspired you the most along the way?

I am surrounded daily in work and my personal life by highly motivated and skilled women that are excelling in their careers. It’s these women that inspire me and drive me forward.

What outlets do you employ outside of work to maintain your sense of balance?

I would love to say I do 15 hours of yoga a week or go to the gym at 5am every morning to help me balance my life but that’s not the case. When I feel overwhelmed or I have too many things to get done, I always find taking a walk and listening to a podcast or some music helps me disconnect. I’ll then decide what is in my control to solve for today and what can wait.
