It’s ploughing time! Plus, Killing Eve and the return of The Supervet

RTÉ Guide - - Contents -

Every September, hundreds of thousands of Irish people cram into a very large field in the midlands. This is no Electric Picnic, more a Diesel Banquet, as the National Ploughing Championships rumbles into Offaly and the townland of Screggan for three days of machinery, madness and Marty. It is now apparently the biggest show of its kind in Europe. This year, RTÉ is once again up to its wellies in the Ploughing with live coverage of the festival on radio, TV and online from cock-crow ( Morning Ireland on Radio 1) to Ploughing Live on RTÉ One from 7pm each evening with co-hosts Aine Lawlor and Marty Morrissey. Apart from the serious business – it is after all a ploughing competition – the festival also embraces fashion, music, baking (the Queen of Cakes, Mary Berry, will be visiting this year) and indeed, anything remotely rural. Other RTÉ coverage at the Ploughing includes the other Marty (Whelan) waxing lyrical ( Marty in the Morning, lyric fm) to Joe Duffy cracking the quip in a special Funny Thursday edition of Liveline. They say all life is at the Ploughing Festival – if it is, RTÉ’s sun-up to sundown coverage will probably capture it.
