Since her re­tire­ment from pro­fes­sional bal­let, Darcey Bus­sell has be­come a for­mi­da­ble ad­vo­cate for pro­mot­ing dance in all ar­eas of life. She has pi­loted dance classes for school­child­ren across the UK, and re­cently spo­ken in West­min­ster, call­ing for dance to be a key part of the cur­ricu­lum in or­der to im­prove chil­dren’s tness. The for­mer prima bal­le­rina has her­self re­turned to dance class; she be­lieves that danc­ing is vi­tal to keep her on an “even keel” and she thinks that it can be an im­por­tant tool for ev­ery­one’s men­tal health. In this new doc­u­men­tary, the Strictly judge in­ves­ti­gates why dance, more than any other form of ex­er­cise, has such a pos­i­tive e ects on mood and be­hav­iour. She in­ves­ti­gates di er­ent men­tal health dance in­ter­ven­tions, from dance work­shops for young peo­ple with men­tal health is­sues, to dance classes and ther­apy for those liv­ing with de­men­tia and Parkin­son’s disease.
