The latest incarnation of the popular format sees 15 children and three teachers endure the best days of their lives on a high-speed trip through time to see how schooling has changed since 1895.

In the late Victorian era, only some 4% of children went to secondary school.

A world away from today’s classroom experiences, strict rules, formality and ritual were part of the school day.

Sarah Cox and Polly Russell host the first of eight episodes looking at how different subjects were divided between different sexes, and punishments were severe.
